This study explores a neglected area in the history of British post-war race relations. The authors argue that the European Volunteer Workers (EVW) scheme marked the intervention of the state into the organization of the domestic labour market. The authors submit that the EVW scheme reinforced divisions between aliens and nationals, as well as existing sexual divisions between men and women workers. This book should be of interest to undergraduates and postgraduates of sociology and history.
