This is an explanation of the importance of proper body conditioning and all-round fitness for improved karate performance. Included is advice on balanced training routines, as well as advice on how to execute and improve linear and circular hand and kicking skills. Exercises are included to help develop power, speed and flexibility. There is a useful section on rehabilitation following injury and advice on the avoidance of injury through safe training. The author is coach tutor to the Martial Arts Commission and has collaborated on the World Union Karate rules' redraft and developmental programme.
