The Widow Lerouge is the English translation of the novel L'Arraire Lerouge written in French. It is said to be the first detective novel. The book was published in the year 1873.
Since it was said to be the first detective novel, it caught attention of the readers, critics, and reviewers and it was highly publicized and acclaimed. In the following years many other writers followed the footsteps of Emile Gaboriau and began to write detective fiction, inspired by the style of writing.
