In sunny Vizag, on the east coast of India, Pari, a young Muslim widow has adopted a Hindu boy. The unusual arrangement comes to the attention of a young, hardline Muslim preacher eager to consolidate his hold on his congregation and an ambitious Hindu priest who is looking for a cause-celebre' in the forthcoming elections and they turn their firepower on Pari to split up her family. Pari's few supporters include Mr and Mrs Ali, but they are ostracised by the community around them and beset by their own problems. There is one plan that might just keep Pari and her son together, but it's a desperate gamble. Does she risk everything for a small chance of success? Can she afford not to?
