I don't believe them...

Whether I'm reading a contemporary, paranormal or historical romance, I have to believe in what I'm reading and that the characters stay consistent. Sure, it's a story, it's not real, it's make-believe, but the author has to convince me that it could really happen. Unfortunately, I didn't believe in the heroine who could so easily flip from a dedicated reporter seeking the truth, to, I'll hold off on reporting because I'm in love with a major player in the story. I didn't believe in the hero who wants to leave his criminal past behind...then takes out his gun to kill his enemy. I already have doubts about the media, the justice system and criminals turning over new leaves. Gypsy King just reinforced those doubts.

Devney Perry is a very accomplished writer and I have enjoyed a lot of her previous stories. While this one didn't particularly work for me, there were still parts that I enjoyed. I really like that she explains the thoughts behind her characters' decisions. I know why the heroine changed her principals and work ethics. I understood and sympathised with the hero's anger that someone he loved was in danger. I'm not oblivious that our justice system is hindered by red-tape so I got why the Police Chief was frustrated by nosy reporters and rulebreakers. Devney Perry can make me see their point of view but unfortunately, she can't make me like them or their decisions.

I wasn't a fan of the way this story ended as too many things were left unanswered. I get that Gypsy King is part of a series and the storyline will be inter-connected by the murder investigation. It just felt unfinished. A few too many oft-repeated plotlines were included in this biker romance, that made me roll my eyes. As soon as Bryce started feeling queazy, I knew where we were heading.

Gypsy King has appealed and will appeal to a lot of romance readers. While the storyline didn't appeal to me, the writing was still of an excellent standard. Devney Perry writes characters with flaws, love stories that make you want to sigh, squirm and shout out with rage, all set in a town that you will want to visit. I highly recommend giving Ms Perry's stories a try.

[Romance Schmomance]

My knowledge of a motorcycle romance is that there's ... motorcycles, motorcycle clubs, sometimes dark and just a whole bunch of grit. And well previous MC romances I've read were erotica and those weren't up my alley. But with Devney being one of my favorite authors out there, I was so excited to get my hands on Gypsy King.
I like that Devney put her own little twist and kept to her small town and contemporary roots, but adding in the MC element to just top things off. My goodness, she did it so well with Gypsy King and I am here for this ENTIRE series!

Gypsy King, which is the first book in the Tin Gypsy series, is my first venture into the world of Devney Perry and I can say without a doubt it will not be my last. I have heard nothing but good things about her work and I was curious to see what all the hype was about.  Now that I am at the end, I can say she deserves all the praises. She took me on a ride that was passionate, suspenseful, intense, raw, dangerous and gritty.  Putting this book down proved to be a difficult task.

The story introduces Bryce a reporter and Dash, the ex president of the Tin Gypsy motorcycle club and now the owner of a garage. Bryce left her career as a news anchor in the city, moved to Clifton Forge, and took up a job with the local newspaper, working alongside her father. She is hungry for a story and believes she can find what she is looking for by investigating the members of the now defunct motorcycle club Tin Gypsy. Determined to turn Clifton Forge on its toes, she made Dash Slater the focus of her investigation. However, things took a turn when a woman was found murdered and all the evidence points to Dash’s father.

I had a great time watching these two match wits. Bryce is determined to get a story, and Dash will do anything to stop her. Meanwhile, the sparks between them sizzled and was off the charts.

Bryce proved to be fearless, witty, sharp, and her tenacity knew no bounds. Dash is no saint, but he is determined to put his past behind him and live his life on the right side of the law. His personality was not one would expect from a biker. There were many layers to him, which made him a rather complex character.

I enjoyed the slow burn romance. Dash and Bryce worked well together. I enjoyed seeing this tough commitment phobic biker brought to his knees by love.


I found the mystery angle interesting. The uncertainties, the danger and the revelations, which all had the potential to destroy lives. It had me guessing throughout the story as I tried to figure out the who and the why.

Now as much as I enjoyed the story, I found the ending disappointing. The romance plot was tied up neatly, and the author treated readers to a nice epilogue highlighting the progress in Dash and Bryce’s relationship. However, regarding the mystery, the story left me with more questions, as I am still not aware of the why and the who. I am not sure why I have to wait to get the answers, but I hope to have confusion cleared up in the next installment.

Conclusion/Recommendation
A great start to an exciting series and one I would recommend to fans of romance and mystery. My thanks to Wildfire Marketing Solutions for the opportunity to read Gypsy King in exchange for an honest review.
