Byron decided he had become intelligent, not in an academic sense you understand, but in the sense that he might be able to convince a person that it would be a good idea for them to end their own life. It doesn't really alter his life that much, until a series of circumstances means he has to put his new gift to the test. "All you have to do" he says, "and I really shouldn't be telling you this, is find out a persons weakness and just sort of tease it to the surface, they'll do the rest". Then when he falls in love he tries to stop, but the whole thing has spiralled out of control and he can't seem to sort out the mess he created. As he ponders on his life he realises that he might just get away with it as long as his intelligence stays with him. The question is, will it?
