The practice of geohydrology has, over the past few decades, become increasingly sophisticated, requiring a degree of specialisation that was not needed five or ten years ago. In response to this increase in level of sophistication, many universities have developed programs in geohydrology. As practitioners, however, one of the deficiencies observed in many of the recent, as well as earlier graduates, is the lack of awareness of practical applications and the limitations of many theoretical approaches. While many universities offer good programs in ``theoretical geohydrology'', practical application courses are rarely available.

The purpose of this book is to provide a reference for addressing many of the practical hydrogeological problems. Although it deals largely with the design and construction of water wells, it also broadly addresses the practice of geohydrology.
