The Beginning to Read: Phonics for Reading Flipover Book focuses on the development of onset and rime awareness, according to National Literacy Strategy guidelines. The Flipover Book contains 16 large pages of phonics pictures, for use in whole class sessions. Each page concentrates on 4-6 rimes, which are clearly listed in a panel. An acetate sheet enables children to write the different onsets next to these rimes, to form the words they find in the pictures. It is supported by twelve Phonics for Reading Children's Books, with fun, rhyming texts and colourful, humorous illustrations. Cambridge Reading is a major new reading scheme which provides stimulating books and support materials for the teaching of reading and the development of literacy throughout the primary years.
