Cocktails and Books

As I started NEVER DOUBT ME, I kept hoping that maybe, just maybe, things for Chase and Kay were going to be a little bit easier this time. But I should have known that it wasn't.
The story picks up at the end of I STAND BEFORE YOU with Chase's little brother, Will, and his girlfriend showing up on Chase's doorstep. Chase does what he thinks he needs to do in order to help his brother get his life back in the right direction, which at that moment would be heading back to Las Vegas. But with Kay's help, Chase finds it a time to reconnect with his brother and maybe help give him some guidance before he goes back home. Chase puts in a noble effort, but it seems Will is as much a magnet for trouble as Chase was.
Chase has definitely grown up and is proving so by what he was trying to do with his brother. But he takes his brotherly love a bit to the extreme...especially when he puts himself back in similar situations that lead to his downfall before. But his effort has a noble cause and you can forgive him for endangering himself. He loves his brother and he'd do just about anything to make sure he doesn't do what he did. Unfortunately, that love for his brother also gets in the way of Chase's relationship with Kay.
Kay is good for Chase. She grounds him, generally. But she's struggling with her own demons with her ex and her mother that she's not always able to ground Chase. Unfortunately, when he pushes her away, she lets him. But I loved how far she's come with her mother when she's able to reach out for advice on what she should do with Chase. Because in the end, Kay is going to have to prove to Chase that he (and his brother) are worth fighting for.
I can't wait for the final book in the series to come out. Vegas here we come.
