Lying out Loud is the Companion novel to THE DUFF a.k.a two side characters in this book were the main characters in that one.
Just like with the Duff I had some problems with this one. The main problem I had with this one was how the lying just got worse and worse the longer things were going on. Now having said that I did like the friendship that Sonny had with her bestfriend and the guy that she was interested in.
I loved the chat aspect of it and just wished it was a little different so that everyone knew the truth. Also can we just talk about how good of a friend Amy is, and also her parents were so kind as well. This is the type of family we need more of, and I hope that teenagers who are struggling with their parents in the same way that Sonny was have a support system like this one.

Overall I'm still a little iffy on this book, just because I don't want to glorify lying to this extreme. Yes things were a little different by the end I was so glad to see that (and it helped me be able to give this book three stars). One other I want to mention is how real this book felt when it came to talking about colleges and the struggle that most kids have that know they can't rely on their parents for financial help for it. So few books actually deal with that, and it was nice to see that for a change in a YA book.

РЕЦЕНЗИЯ:
Думаю, что любой, кто читал другие книги Кеплингер примерно знает, что ожидать от любого ее нового романа.

Школа, неидеальная героиня с явно выраженными недостатками, клевый популярный парень, искры между ними и проблемы с тем, чтобы «просто быть вместе». Простой и стандартный набор, который Коди использует из книги в книгу, плохо ли это? Честно говоря даже не знаю. Но я знаю, что книги автора читаются легко и быстро и идеально подходят в тот период времени, когда у вас книжный застой и хочется чего-то «попроще».

Еще немаловажным фактором, является то, что Коди Кеплингер в каждую книгу вкладывает некий посыл, она создает неидеальных героинь и подчеркивает их недостатки, не оправдывает, не обеляет, а учит и перевоспитывает.

Минусы:
- Героиня, которая лжет, как дышит. Фактически, Сонни даже ГОРДИТСЯ своим умением легко и складно врать по поводу или нет. Не знаю, как вам, а у меня это вызвало некое отторжения.
- Отношение героини к своей лучшей подруге и ее родителям. Порой оно казалось мне… потребительским.
- Я правда устала от отрицательного образа мам в любовных романах. Если в фэнтези книгах я на это не обращаю внимание, то в романах это порядком надоедает.
- Честно говоря не самый милый и приятный главный герой на свете. Лицемерный и самовлюбленный, считающий себя выше других и окружающего мира. И опять же, бывают герои с такими качествами очаровательными, харизматичными, но не Райдер. Увы.

Плюсы:
- Маленький объем, легкость повествования, читается очень быстро.
- Тема семьи и дружбы.
- Присутствие героев из «Простушки» и «Локаута» (пусть вторые и появились мимолетно). А также главная героиня «A Midsummer's Nightmare».
- Неплохой юмор.
- Автор не обеляет и не одобряет свою героиню, все ее недостатки были созданы намеренно, и автор подчеркивает, что поступать так, как поступает она плохо.

Lying Out Loud was so freaking cute! Sonny is a liar. She can't help it. When things aren't going her way, she lies to get out of it. It's not just the little things, like why she's late for class for the billionth time. Sonny is also lying to her best friend, Amy, about getting kicked out of the house, and having to live with her. Then there's Ryder, the hottie new kid who's a total snob and hipster. He has an unrequited crush on Amy, so Sonny steps in. Only, she ends up liking him, and they chat all night. But Ryder thought it was Amy, so Sonny is caught up in a lie she didn't mean to tell.

Lying Out Loud is pretty much an adorable hate-to-love, mistaken identity type Romance. And there's so much banter! Sonny and Ryder bicker constantly in class and shoot dirty looks, but then at night online, they pick on each other but in a flirting way. They also talk about real stuff, then go back to the jokes when things get too much. They are absolutely perfect for each other! Except for the whole Ryder thinking she's Amy rather than herself. Their interactions are just too freaking cute.

The only thing I didn't like about Lying Out Loud was Amy. This girl has zero personality. It's said a few times that Sonny is the loud one and Amy is the quiet one, but Amy is so quiet that she might as well not even be there. She's basically a prop. Quiet people have personality traits other than shy and quiet! It would have been nice to see a different side to Amy when she's home with Sonny, but even then she doesn't say much unless prompted by Sonny or the plot.

Overall, Lying Out Loud was a fantastic read! I loved Sonny even though she was a liar. She didn't mean to hurt anyone. She just finds it easier to make up something than tell anyone what's really going on with her. Of course, she does have to make amends when all of the lies blow up in her face.

Voy a confesar que no le tenía mucha esperanza a Lying Out Loud, cuando se empezó a promocionar como parte de la serie The Duff pensé que Kody explotaría sus personajes ya conocidos. Pero no, Lying Out Loud se desarrolla al igual que sus otros libros que no tuvieron la publicidad de "parte de The Duff". Si has leído todos sus libros, sabrás que se desarrollan en el mismo escenario y aunque aparecen los personajes de los otros libros, solo lo hacen para dejarnos saber que están vivos.

CatFishing. Nunca entendí la expresión, porque en lo que pienso cuando alguien menciona esa palabra es a un gato sacando peces de una pecera y comérselos. Pero, lo que quiere decir la frase según urbandicitionary es que es coquetear con alguien online haciéndoles creer que tú eres otra persona. O sea, básicamente lo que hago con el blog jajaja Por algo la frase tiene gato en ella. Lying Out Loud es una especie de catfishing no intencionado, o un Cyrano de Bergerac a la inversa.

Esta vez la escritora no me hizo sentir incómoda. Sus libros tienden a ser un poquito agresivos en cuanto al sexo. No digo que los libros juveniles no deban tener sexo, no, eso sería absurdo, solo que si has leído Shut Out, se me hizo un poco demasiado exagerado y siendo ese casi el último libro que leí de Kody Keplinger, pensé que este sería mucho más explícito. Felizmente, para mí, no.

LOL (LYING OUT LOUD)

Esta historia me encantó, mi favorito de todos los libros de Kody hasta ahora.

Más que una historia de romance, es una historia de amistad entre Sonny y Amy. Es tan bonito porque antes que cualquier romance sin garantía, la amistad de estas dos chicas es lo más importante para ella, aunque haya tenido algunos resbalones por aquí y por allá. Amy es un personaje que tiende a caerme mal, pero Kody escribió la escribió tan bien, que no pude más que sentirme dolida cuando Sonny tiene que mentirle. Amy en el libro no tiene un gran protagonismo, pero se las arregla para aprender de ciertos errores que había estado permitiendo. Es cierto que puedes aprender de los errores de los demás también.

Me gustan muchos los romances que se desarrollan mediante cartas, email, mensajes de texto. Hay un lazo bastante psicológico en tratar a alguien mediante medio escrito en lugar de cara a cara. No sé si te ha pasado, pero hay personas que me agradan demasiado tan solo por su manera de escribir. El saber escoger las palabras es importante.

SONNY

La adoro. Es un personaje tan bien estructurado, me desesperó un poquito durante dos capítulos, pero fue mínimo. No es un personaje perfecto, como todos los personajes de Kody, pero tiene una personalidad tan magnética. Incluso el hipster snob de Ryder pudo resistirse. Sonny es sarcástica, divertida, no es realista pero trata de llevarlo lo mejor que puede. La con demasiada esperanza es Amy, en una manera adorable. Son un buen par estas dos chicas.

GUIÑOS A THE DUFF: LA PELÍCULA

Seh, hay una escena en Lying Out Loud que no entendí. Amy y Sonny van al centro comercial y se encuentran supuestamente con una ex-novia de Wesley, el problema es que no la recordaba, me tuvo pensando un buen rato. Y para colmo no vi la película por lo que no pude vincularlo. Hasta que leí un artículo donde me explicaban que esa escena era una manera de conectar la película del libro con el universo The Duff.

Solo que si como yo, no has visto la película, vas a terminar completamente confundido por unos minutos.

Lying Out Loud me ha encantado, me recordó muchas cosas en las que trato de no pensar jajaja y aún así me gustó bastante. Aunque quizá para algunos pueda tener un final demasiado abierto, a mí me pareció perfecto.

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I actually liked this book more than The Duff. I found myself so involved in Sonny's life. I cared about the way she was messing up her relationships, I worried about her, my heart ached when it came to her family, my heart soared when something good happened to her. She was, by no means, a perfect character. In fact, Sonny was very, very flawed. However, she had a good heart and she never meant for things to play out they way they did. I loved that Keplinger allowed us to catch back up with Bianca and Wesley. That is one of my favorite things about companion books -- that opportunity to see what happened after the story ended. I hope to meet more of the residents of Hamilton

Does anyone else get really excited when they read books that are companions to books that you've already read? Kody Keplinger's YA books always make me super happy because I love the little cameos that her previous main characters get, and it makes me squeal inside. Lying Out Loud was a book that wasn't all that mindblowing, but it was still really good, mainly because of said cameos.

As with A Midsummer's Nightmare, I wasn't a huge fan of the romance in Lying Out Loud. I don't know if it's because I'm kind of going off YA romances (ha, yeah, right) or because Keplinger just isn't ticking those same boxes any more, but I was totally bored by the romance and I saw the whole Second Act Breakup coming a mile away. Because those happen in EVERY. BOOK. I. READ.

Anyway, I didn't hate the romance like I did in AMN, but I wasn't blown away by it. And those feelings are true for the rest of the book as well. The main character, Sonny, was okay. I didn't connect with her at all but I did feel sorry for her when I was told about her home life and all that. I loved her relationship with Amy, though. Those two are hella adorable. YAY FOR BEST FRIENDSHIPS.

I thought that a couple of points weren't expanded enough, or wrapped up well enough for me to be satisfied after finishing the book. Firstly, the thing with Sonny's dad. We weren't given much information there, and I was really curious about how/why/when. He kind of just pops up out of nowhere with very little explanation and then all of a sudden Sonny is like YAY MY DAD! And the stuff with her mum wasn't wrapped up well at all. Again, there was very little explanation, and it was left very open ended. I wanted to know if her mother had some sort of mental illness, because that's what it seemed to be hinting at, but now I guess I will never know.

I guess Kody Keplinger's books - particularly this one - aren't meant to be all that deep. But I would have liked for her to expand upon some things.

Overall, Lying Out Loud was a good book and I will be adding it to my Kody Keplinger collection once I actually make that a thing. I only own The DUFF so far because I suck. I will, of course, continue reading Keplinger's contemporary novels, but I can't say I'm expecting amazing things from her books any more. But I have hope that she'll prove me wrong in the near future!
