I'm typically a happily ever after girl.
When I caught the tag line associated with this book, I was incredibly intrigued.
I didn't expect flowers and roses. I expected messy and complicated and delicious and crazy. I got all that and much more.
Leighlee aka Bliss and Thomas aka Dusty in the beginning are just two impressionable kids who just want to have fun and make it from one day to the next. As we see the two grow, live, learn, and begin to love, their worlds twist and turn with secrets and never spoken promises. It's heartbreaking and painful, yet I wanted to read more.
The theme of this novel seemed to be love. Even at their worst moments, most of which were attributed to Dusty, as a reader I never doubted their love for each other. Addiction can be a cruel mistress and it had a firm grip on Dusty for the entire novel. It was there whispering in his ear, pushing the blood through his veins, and firing all the wrong synapse in his brain. Their love was impossible, yet undeniable.
I really wanted to smack some sense into the both of them at several points in the novel. What reader doesn't want to beat their favorite characters for making bad choices? It was all so horribly wonderful that I couldn't stop reading to find out if they could possibly redeem themselves.
I will have to wait to find out. I hear The Elizabeths original version of this story was 1,000 pages so they thought it best to split it up. The next installment isn't far off though. Dusty #2, Delinquents, releases October 23rd, 2014.
