The Young Explorer by Horatio Alger tells the story of a young boy's story of struggles to get his inheritance and final success. Like many other stories written by the author, this story revolves around the major character, the boy hero.
Benjamin, or Ben, is introduced in the opening of the novel. His uncle Job is showing him the will of Ben's father. The uncle informs the boy that his father has left him three hundred and sixty five dollars and nineteen cents. The uncle tells him that Ben is a rich sixteen years old boy and there are not many other young rich people.
The opening of the story prepares the readers for the ensuing events and a keen reader can easily guess that it is not going to be easy for the young boy to get hold of the inheritance.
