It is said that on her 13th birthday, during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, Anne Frank had received a diary as one of the birthday gifts.
According to Anne Frank, the day before she got the diary, she had already chosen that diary at a shop while she was visiting a bookstore with her father, so it was not a surprise gift on her 13th birthday.
Anne Frank started writing in her diary on 14th of June, 1942. Unfortunately, on 5th of June, 1942, her older sister Margot was summoned to report to a Nazi work camp in Germany.
