You can’t help but love this Cocky Aussie.
I liked the Cocky Bastard from the very beginning. Then, I loved the Cocky Bastard the more I got to know him. When the Cocky Bastard ripped my heart out, I couldn’t really hate him. I was frustrated with the Cocky Bastard for a little while, but I knew deep down there HAD to be a good reason for him leaving. I got the full story, and while I wished the Cocky Bastard had trusted me with the truth, I couldn’t help but love him more. Aussies sure are lovable and Cocky. ;)
The Cocky Bastard is Chance. He is an American with an Aussie accent who is extremely good looking with a sensational body. Chance meets Aubrey at a pit stop when the two of them are on their own journeys of discovery. Aubrey is traveling across the country to a new job and to get away from an ex who cheated on her. Chance we don’t know much about, but we do know that he is heading in the same direction as Aubrey. Unfortunately, Chance’s motorbike won’t get him the distance and so he hits Aubrey up to travel together. At first, they get off on the wrong foot, but soon they get to know each other more and really connect. Chance keeps pushing Aubrey away, even though he has made it quite clear that he is extremely attracted to her. Aubrey really likes Chance and wants him to take a risk on her. Chance knows that it would cause her heartbreak…and it does.
This story is told in two segments. The first is told through Aubrey’s eyes and the second through Chance’s. The first half is fun, adventurous and full of sexual tension. The second half is emotional, heart-breaking and frustrating. The whole story is romantic in lots of different ways but it’s a bit one-sided. Chance wants Aubrey and he’ll do anything to prove that he’s worth taking a chance on.
I’m probably not making a lot of sense with this review, but I’m struggling with how to describe it without giving it all away. Let's just say that while it might seem that Chance is doing all the work, he kind of has to. At first, it’s because Aubrey is hesitant to trust him, then when she finally does, Chance messes up BIG TIME!! So in the second half, he works his butt off to prove himself worthy of her love and to make up for causing her heart to break.
I really enjoyed Cocky Bastard but it was ALL because of Chance. I didn’t mind Aubrey, but Chance was just so lovable and sweet. I forgave Chance in two seconds when I found out why he’d hurt Aubrey and I was cranky that Aubrey took longer than two seconds to forgive him. There is a wee bit of a love-triangle in the second half which frustrated me a little but not enough to take away too much from the story. I will definitely be reading more from this duo in the future.

I <3 <3 <3'd this book. Loved it. I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into when I started COCKY BASTARD, but I was quickly unwilling to put this book down.
Aubrey meets Chance, by chance, as she drives from Chicago to Temecula, California. Aubrey is a bit bitter, after having caught her live-in boyfriend cheating on her. But meeting Chance gave Aubrey something she's never had before. The opportunity to live a little. To let loose. To discover exactly she is. With Chance she experiences life. As wonderful as all that was for Aubrey, Chance is also the one to give her her biggest heartbreak, where she has to figure out how to move on. And just when she's finally gotten her life back on track, fate put Chance in Aubrey's path once again.
I loved these two. I loved the bickering. Chance pushed Aubrey's buttons, but he did it in a way the always seemed to give Aubrey the little push she needed to experience life. It was also their version of foreplay, with Chance purposefully saying things just to rile Aubrey up. But it worked for these two and made it extremely fun to follow their road trip.
Chance was one of those characters that had to much more to him once he got past his extraordinary looks and his cocky attitude. He was a guy trying to get over the past, while making sure he and his sister were happy. You didn't see those deep sides that often, as he choose to hide them behind his humor, but when you did it made you love him even more.
COCKY BASTARD is one of those books that you will want to read over and over again. From the Obama bobblehead to a fainting goat, there's laughter, a smoking hot guy, and a romance that has you rooting for the guy to win her over. It's a romance novel that has everything and one that I highly, highly recommend.

You have proper, smart, and witty Aubrey teaming up with Chance; sexy, cocky, hilarious, outgoing ... the list goes on, for this comical and unexpected adventure. And lets throw in the favorite of this story, their goat, that they picked up off the road. Don't think too much about, it's awesome and you will love him!
Oh my gosh, the dialogue between the both of them will literally have you laughing your pants off. I don't think I've ever highlighted so many moments from a book before. Being as outgoing as Chance, there were so many moments where I was thinking Did he really say that?! or He did NOT just do that! This guy has no bounds, which makes him seem so free, but there's an irony in that, guess you'll have to read to find out.
I was a bit surprised how quickly Aubrey came around to Chance, in the normal world, this definitely would not happen. Stranger danger ! But that's why I love reading these books; authors building us a world that exceeds some of reality.
There's a lot of sexual tension between them and it's a slow, but constant build until they reach their peak. And phew ... steamy, steamy! There are a few moments where you'll be thinking, it's finally going to happen and then it doesn't. Chance is quite the mystery especially when it comes to knowing more about each other. He isn't saying something to Aubrey and you won't figure out what that is until half way through the book.
The book goes from entertaining, fun-loving, relentless flirting to heartbreak and filling in the pieces of what was missing. Don't worry, there's a very HEA :)
This book had one of my big NOs, so I couldn't rate it 5 stars. The writing between Penelope And Vi flows so well, it's apparent that they make a great writing duo. Prepare to be entertained, possibly peeing your pants with the amount of laughing you'll do, and maybe some tissues for those sad and sweet moments.
