The Trailblazers Interactive Software: Set One CD-ROM accompanies the three Trailblazers reading books Comets, Dinosaur! and Mummies. The CD-ROM contains talking versions of each of the fiction stories contained in these books, Create a Book Software and a range of interactive activities based on the fiction and non fiction themes in the three Trailblazers books. For the talking books the story is read out with every word highlighted and voiced. These are configurable so aspects like the font, size of text and screen colour can be changed. The Create a book software allows the user to create their own work using text, images, sound files and probably also movie, kids will be able to create their own work. It includes sentences and suggestions with themes and lots of help such as spell checkers. Together with speech synthesis to read what the user writes. Each activity is designed to develop students' basic skills and to give them confidence in reading and understanding. The interactive activities are are three levels and there is no repetition within the activities of tasks for any individual book, which enables the teacher to use the full set to provide a degree of progression and to customize the activity for any particular pupil.
