Willa Cather received the Pulitzer Prize for literature for her novel One of Ours (1922). The inspiration for the book came from reading her cousin G.P. Cather's wartime letters. G.P. Cather was the first officer from Nebraska killed in World War I. She continued writing books through 1940. She is best known for her "prairie trilogy," O Pioneers! (1913), The Song of the Lark (1915), and My Antonia (1918). Sinclair Lewis stated that Willa Cather should have been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature instead of him.
