Catwoman hasn’t really lived up to what I had hoped the New 52 relaunch would give to her character. In fact of the New 52 comics I’ve read her’s are among the weakest. This one has improved over the first volume but I still wish there were more to it.
We are introduced to more storyline that ties into the Detective Comics and Talon issues, and some of the storyline from the last volume carries over. We get more story but even with the added structure I found myself not really caring what happened to Selina. The Dollhouse storyline is interesting enough and I’ve always liked that Catwoman, despite her issues, isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty to help out those close to her situation. I’m really hoping that this one continues to improve, though hopefully the next one will be more than a half a star improvement.
We have two artists in this one. Guillem March, from the last issue, sticks to his photo shoot like style where Catwoman manages to find herself in poses even when in the middle of a sticky situation. I’m not entirely sure why he finds it necessary to give us a ton of proportion shots or close ups of Catwoman’s body. There were moments when I questioned if she even had hip bones or if she was double jointed, because her type of sexy looks painful. Adriana Melo is the second artist and though some of her art is a bit rougher I enjoyed her style much more, because even though Catwoman still has pose-y moments we are not constantly feed a stream of butt, boobs, and contortion.
I’m really hoping Catwoman managed to claw herself to a better story, because I’m not sure if I’ll continue the arc if it doesn’t pick up.
