High voltage DC transmission lines now allow the world to provide power over considerable distance without undue inefficiency. This coincides with Richard Buckminster Fuller's idea of a interconnecting regional power systems into a world wide network of high voltage, high efficiency, DC transmission cables which will allow single continuous global electrical energy grid. Modern developments in high voltage transmission could make this a reality today allowing the linking of international and inter regional energy networks practicable. DC transmission is at the moment the only practical way of linking power of different countries bearing in mind different voltages and AC frequencies.
