"24 Words Toddlers Can Read" is a result of the urging G.T. Bond received from a friend, who said that the world needs instruction on how to teach the very young. G.T. Bond had successfully taught all seven of her own children to read before they entered kindergarten, and because these were such wonderful experiences, they had also taught their own children while they were babies. Further, among her children who had entered the work force are those who have become world renown and sought after in their fields of endeavor. While raising her children, she discovered that she obtained best results if she taught her babies from the time they were born. She, herself, recalls learning to read at the age of two, but that process was curtailed and not allowed to continue. Because she was recognized as being nothing more than average in intelligence after she entered school, she concluded that any young child had the ability to read and prepared herself to teach her future children.
