Although written over 100 years ago the content of this book is a mine of useful and interesting information on how to save money today and is reprinted from the 1899 Sunlight Almanac for the Home with kind permission of Lever Faberge Ltd & Unilever Historical Archives. It gives suggested menus and over 20 inexpensive and nutritious recipes (both meat and vegetarian) made from real food unlike the bland convenience foods we now eat. This book shows you how to cook tasty dishes which can simmer on the stove while you do other things, shows you how to budget, how to grow your own vegetables, how to make soap last longer and many other things that are relevant today with just a few adjustments. It is fascinating to compare the lifestyles of then and now, to see the huge range of foods that were eaten and to learn of fruit and vegetables no longer familiar today. A very good book for anyone interested in the Victorian era or trying to live on a tight budget.
