This series of books for secondary schools adopts a concentric approach to geography and gives regular opportunity for fieldwork. Each book has 36 studies containing practical activities for the pupil and notes for the teacher. Book 2 is a study of neighbourhoods and towns. The activities involve both data collection and analysis of findings. Pupils are introduced to a wide range of display techniques including diagrams, graphs, symbols, codes, maps and annotated drawings. Discussion and the use of geographical vocabulary is a vital part of the work and specialist terms are introduced where appropriate. A range of issues, questions and problems are also raised to give pupils experience in constructing and testing their own hypothese and to allow consideration of attitudes and values. The teacher's notes contain suggestions for further enquiries and homework. Simulations, role play and geographical problems are also included. Book 1 looks at geographical elements in the pupil's own immediate experience. This leads to a study of neighbourhoods and towns in this book an a focus on national and international affairs in book 3.
