The Company of Scotland was established by an act of parliament. It planned a colony that would announce itself in a founding declaration, and govern itself by a set of rules and ordinances. These were the founding principles of a new society. Together with basic ideas and practices in economics, politics, religion, medicine, navigation and law, these principles were tested to destruction.
