The witches are all ruled by the extremely vicious and powerful Grand High Witch, who in the story has just arrived in England to organise her worst plot ever. It has recently come to my attention that I have missed some great books during my child. In an effort to fill in some of the gaps, I have decided to go back and read some of these great books. I have to say that I have only read Matilda by Roald Dahl. I love that book so much that I have decided to read Dahl’s backlist.

The Witches by Roald Dahl is an entertaining read for an afternoon, but not much else. The Witches certainly put a smile on my face. It is a story about a young boy, his grandmother, witches, and a dastardly plot formed by said witches. For me this book doesn’t come close to Matilda; however, it is a solid read.

Recommended For: Either readers looking for a nostalgic read or readers with children in elementary school.
