"A committee consisting of George Biddle, Chairman, David Finley, Reeves Lewenthal, Henry Vamura Poor and Edward Rowan advised the Army upon the artists to be selected to make an Army War Record. The present exhibition for several reasons is composed of only a portion of the record. In the first place, more work has already been completed by some members of the group than could be shown at one time. Meanwhile a few members have not yet developed their work and one or two of the artists in the Army who are still on distant fronts have not had an opportunity to send back their paintings."
