The Shogun's Scrolls were written in the twelfth century by Hidetomo Nakadai, a scholar and servant in the court of Minamoto Yoritomo, the first shogun of Japan. Soon after his victories over rival clans, the shogun ordered Nakadai to provide detailed advice on governing the realm.
