Now, I was a bit weary, not going to lie, reading this book after book one, but that is only because of Sam’s actions and behaviour last time, some of it I really didn’t agree with. I was tutting a lot at her and telling her off, not that she listened. But looking back as much as she frustrated me, did I care no, why because I thought the book was so intriguing and effective, that I wanted to jump right back in with this book and say hi.
This book had been gripped from the beginning, because of Rosie. She was so deliciously crazy (sorry if it’s not the appropriate term here!) and I had not got a scooby why! Luckily Sam suspects early on something is not quite right with her and sticks to her guns. She was playing a part for Sam, and then in her chapters, we saw another side, where she will never divulge her secrets. But what secrets?? What is this act all about? Was is it an act? What happened to her? And what is so special about the viola??????????????
Ok ok ok, I need to take a breath here!
Ok, all composed! What I love about this series, is that it is not a cop duo, it is not a joe bloggs off the street trying to solve a crime, it is a doctor of psychology! It gives such a different perspective on the solving of the crimes, and a much more psychological thriller, literally.
I loved being brought back to Miranda…or Mimi, and her and Sam trying to rebuild their lives together after that absolutely shocking discovery from the first book. So it was nice to see that interaction, and Miranda calling Sam out was refreshing. But it was also good to see some growth with Sam following the events of the first book, trying to progress in her career and trust her instincts.
I just can’t get bored of Ms Waine’s writing, everything flows, and she makes the mystery, so mysterious! I love that everything is character driven here, and not plot, action and fireworks and that is what makes it more chilling, as we focus on the nitty-gritty. It is written in a way where you don’t want to put the book down and you crave to know what is going on! I am really looking forward to the next book in this series because there is just so much that can be done with it.
