The author, a Rabbi, contends that religious commitment can be accessible and attractive to everyone, regardless of how they live or what their religious convictions are. He does not attempt to "prove" God's existence, nor does he make a case for any particular religious group, instead he writes simply and gracefully about the need to make sense of our lives, about loneliness, guilt, reassurance, the intuitive belief that life is sacred, the need to make a dfference and most importantly about the times when we have spent our love, strength and compassion on others, exhausted our resources and risk running dry. It is then, the author writes, that religious faith will renew, refresh and replenish us. Rabbi Kushner has also written "When All You Have Always Wanted is Not Enough" and "When Bad Things Happen to Good People".
