Without doubt this is not a book for the squeamish, having all the bloodcurdling ingredients of war as witnessed and endured in bloodthirsty battles throughout the centuries. Stemming from a recurring childhood dream of the Author's about a Welsh Prince being chased over the mountains in Wales the story has quite a spooky history , for at least one of the characters in his dream definitely existed, and most certainly similar battles would have taken place. Rugged terrain, carnage, barbaric behaviour, conspiracies, plots, blood, gore, pillage, rape, beatings and abuse are all described in precise detail, but whilst primarily a man's book it nonetheless contains a love story for the ladies, together with some satisfyingly gruesome details of the measures which some of the women took in revenge on the men who raped and tortured them. A veritable cornucopia of brutally chilling incidents, it contains all the necessary battle elements and - together with the underlying plotting and deceit of the times - is bound to appeal to anyone interested in the history of war.
Although a tale of fiction, there is more to this book than meets the eye, and it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the idea spawned from a dream could have taken place much as recounted by the Author.
