This resource is designed to provide access to the German language for pupils with special educational needs. It is flexible and adaptable for a range of classroom activities to suit the varying abilities of special needs pupils, for use either in conjunction with the chosen course materials in mainstream schools, or as the main German resource in special schools. The book contains a scheme of work, adapted from HANSOW Special, a framework produced by advisers and teachers in Hampshire, and based on research among SEN teachers in both mainstream and special schools. It is divided into nine modules, each of which contains around five topics, and includes: a brief introduction; a planning sheet for each module, to help teachers towards realistic goals; a planning sheet for each topic, listing basic vocabulary, identifying activities and resources to be used, suggesting projects, and linking with curriculum areas and levels.
It also contains a resource bank of photocopiable worksheets and game templates created by Sue Brown for use with each module, including: blank worksheet templates for a variety of practice, reinforcement and assessment activities; examples of completed templates to demonstrate their use; master picture sheets to be photocopied for use as flashcards, game cards, worksheet illustrations and OHTs; and straightforward teaching notes for each module, with ideas for activities in all areas.
