This collection of essays looks at the place of sport in countries which are particularly affected by social division. Sport is used as a window through which to explore the relationship between national identity, nationalism, ethnicity and sporting expression in diverse cultural settings. The cases presented are Spain, Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, Ireland, South Africa, Georgia and Germany. The Chelsea School Research Centre Edition series originated in the advanced scholarship and research undertaken in CSRC as it consolidated and developed its national and international research networks. It brings together state-of-the-art scholarship and research in the sociology of sport, the sport sciences, leisure studies and physical education. Each volume comprises multidisciplinary approaches to a common theme, or themed collections based upon single disciplines. Specialist scholars from the CSRC or prominent authors from other universities and Research Centres contribute to these editions.
