What a well done middle grade novel.

I loved this book! It's a darling story, and quick read. I'm excited to read the rest of the series. I think these books would be perfect for kids who enjoyed the first Harry Potter book, or kids who are a little young for the HP universe.

I loved the idea of a sentient castle. One who would add on rooms when bored, or just because. I also liked how it seemed to love Celie, and added things or changed where things were in the castle to help her.

I liked Celie's siblings, though Celie was my favorite of the characters. I also liked the intrigue, and how the bad guys tried to take over the castle. It was believable, and made perfect sense as to why they were doing it.

Sometimes it was hard to remember how old Celie was supposed to be, as some scenes in the book (mostly the early parts) felt like she was a much younger child because of how she acted. But once the King and Queen go missing, Celie started acting her age and it wasn't a problem for me anymore.

This is the first in a series, but it can totally be read as a stand alone. Everything gets wrapped up by the end of the book, and you aren't left hanging. I read the book in one sitting because I couldn't seem to find a good stopping place. It was constantly "I'll just finish this chapter." or "At the end of this scene, I'll stop." And the next thing I knew, the book was over. So make sure you have a couple hours to spare before starting the book!

I'll totally be picking up the next book in this series, I can hardly wait to see what the children get up to next.

Tuesdays at the Castle is a great addition to the writing of Jessica Day George. This book was written for the Middle-Grade group, 8-12, but even I enjoyed it as an adult reader. As a teacher of the targeted age group, I know that they will love this book!
