This book and the associated videos look at the issue that concerns teachers most - that is, what it means to be an effective teacher. Five secondary school teachers have been filmed and analysed using recent research findings. This helps to make clear the combination of teacher skills and professional characteristics needed to produce effective teching.
This resource can be used by: - teachers as a mechanism for discussion during school INSET concerning classroom management; - individual teachers at home who may wish to reveiw their own approach to teaching; - ITT students who may wish to supplement their own classroom observation with examples of effective teachers in other schools; - training colleges who wish to give their students examples of effective teachers and use this as a means of discussion; - teachers who are reflecting on their teaching practice as they approach their Threshold Application; - teachers who have gone through the Threshold and wish to move on to the next stage of Performance Management In each case, the extensive manual outlines each of the individual teacher's intentions and aspirations and then allows you to compare this with some 30 minutes of video focusing on their classroom practice. Finally, these two impressions are compared with the designated features of effective teaching and learning as outlined in the Hay McBer report.
