Anton Chekhov is considered to be one of the most significant Russian short story writers and playwrights. It is quite commendable that many of his stories are said to be the apotheosis of the form. His playwriting career was brief but he had a great impact on dramatic literature and performance.

Through Anton Chekhov's writings, many writers got inspired and they learned how to use mood, apparent trivialities and inaction to highlight the internal psychology of characters. Chekhov's four major plays-The Seagull, Uncle Vanya, Three Sisters, and The Cherry Orchard-have all been widely performed for decades.

It would not be inappropriate to call Anton Chekhov the writer of unique story writing style. His place in Russian literature is undoubtedly supreme.
