margin-walking is gritty urban noir exploring sexualities and coming out in newcastle upon tyne, against a subtext of investigative journalism exposing organised abuse in childrens homes. ric - who is at the heart of this novel - now performs street theatre for cash. he cruises men while having a long-term female partner zehra and a young son, jamie. ric and zehra grew up 'in care' together. we relive key moments of their institutionalised abuse, whose paedophile ring now operates at a higher level. now ric, gaybashed and hospitalised by a gang acting on orders from past abusers is forced to address both his sexuality and those demons from his past. he comes out as gay, addresses his hedonism and learns to be a good father. a 'reclaim the streets' style demo is eventually put into action by him and his chosen family, providing a memorable platform from which to expose the abusers once and for all.
