Terry Hummer is a widely published American poet, fiction writer and literary critic, currently editor of the prestigious literary journal, The Georgia Review.

Bluegrass Wasteland is his first UK publication, and he will be giving a series of readings from it in venues throughout the UK in early 2006.

Bluegrass Wasteland: Selected Poems 1978-2003 draws on Terry Hummer's seven collections of poetry and serves to locate him as one of America's most distinguished poets.

Characterised by a mixture of intellectual and emotional observation, and leaping off the page through the sheer scope of his imagination, Hummer's poems often direct a 'penetrating gaze into contemporary anxieties and struggles, treating them with a scientist's eye for minutiae and a philosopher's tone' (Rain Taxi). The poet is a saxophonist and sometime band member, and this gives his work a rhythm and drive that makes for compelling reading.

This title is a Poetry Book Society winter recommendation.
