Oh, what a splendid little book. I judged it based on the opening chapter and thought it would be a grim book; it’s the opposite. Such a big heart throughout, even amidst the struggles. Good call to pick this up while reading Too Like the Lightning. Excavating the Enlightenment ideas there bookends the Enlightenment birthing pains here. Self-contained, but I know it’s going to need the rest of the trilogy to finish the story. I’m hooked.
