This work sets out to cover all the work required up to final degree standard in strength of materials - the study of the behaviour of structural and machine members under the action of external loads. The only prior knowledge assumed is of elementary applied mechanics and calculus. A summary of formulae, methods and underlying principles is given at the end of each chapter, together with worked examples and examination-type problems.
