Ness Havelock, a hard man riding the outlaw trail, receives a plea for help from a former partner, Roland Prince. He rushes to Saint Johns to help his friend, but it also leads him to Rita Pilar - the woman he had loved and left. Then there's rancher Harlow Wilson with his desire to take over the county, a group of settlers from overseas and Ruel Gatlin, who has sworn revenge on Ness for killing his brothers. Whilst trying to explain himself to Rita, Ness gets embroiled in the dirty business rife in Apache County and soon he must run for his life.
