If you've never read the Penderwick books, you're missing out. It's the story of a widowed father raising four daughters. I fell in love with the series a few years back. I loved how the book felt like old kid's books I read back in the day (kids getting into shenanigans) but in a modern setting. Over the course of four novels, the family grew to include a stepmother, stepbrother, and half-sister. Here we are years later and the girls are all grown up. I was so looking forward to revisiting my beloved Penderwicks. The book allows me to visit them but not in the way I was hoping for. The story focuses on baby Lydia who is now 11 years old. I understand that tweens/kids reading the books want to read about kids their age not women in their twenties. In that respect, the book was underwhelming for me. Then the story takes on a serious Little Women turn and I'm not a fan of that. Oh well, I'm glad to have the series finished up.
