The description of Hotline had me at "phone sex operator." Zack is a phone sex operator and he's pretty good at it. He's by no means the most popular at his workplace, but he gets the job done. Then John calls, and he instantly becomes more than just another client. There's something about him that Zack really likes, and the chemistry is obviously there for real. Too bad he's just an anonymous voice...until they run into each other and recognize each others voices.
Hotline was so freaking fun to read! It had me hooked from the very beginning! Zack's job is quite entertaining. We mainly just get his steamy calls with John, but he also highlights some of the stranger calls that he's gotten. I also liked how Zack wasn't ashamed to be a sex worker. There's an obvious stigma that comes with this line of work, but he's quick to point out that it is a real job. It pays his bills. He does it safely and by choice. Sure, it's not his dream career but he's enjoying it now for the most part and he won't let anyone talk down to him for it.
Of course, Hotline is a Romance novel. Zack and John meet and their chemistry is through the roof! They go from having a lot of phone sex, to having a lot of real sex! From there feelings develop and they go on dates and are generally adorable together. At least until the inevitable fight, which I am of two minds about. On one hand, I am quite annoyed that there was a fight to break them up temporarily and both of them do things that I find not okay. But on the other hand, it brought up some interesting points about relationships and communication. And it led to them actually talking things out rather than just getting back together and living happily ever after like none of it ever happened.
In the end, I really enjoyed Hotline. It's a very unconventional Romance and I loved that! I also really liked how it showed that it's okay to not know what you want to do in life. You can try things, quit things, start other things. That's all valid. No one should be making you feel bad for your choices, or not choosing at all. Zack is 21 and figuring all of that out with the help of family and friends.
