This is a book about a girl and her obsession with sharks. I admit I have sort of a weird fascination with them myself. Every time I am in the ocean I am half thrilled and half terrified. What got me was the artwork in the memoir. It is superb. It has deliberate color schemes and some panels from jaws. It takes you along on a journey that the girl took, and the artwork really pops up at you. It makes you feel the terror that she feels with the sharks. She delved into her imagination to bring the sharks and their accompanying terror alive.

I think this is a book best read in hardback. I read it in hardback, and I could see the artwork as it was meant to be seen. I don't think an e-reader or tablet could offer the same experience as look at the art in a hardback book.

The only experience i have with sharks is courtesy of Steven Speilberg. I grew up in central Appalachia, so I had no encounters with sharks. Reading this though I could feel myself gaining insight on sharks. Did you know that sharks skin is like sandpaper with tiny little teeth? The way she described it I could almost feel the skin.  This is a talented woman to watch out for.
