President de Klerk's speech of 2nd February 1990 symbolically marked the 1990s as a decade of transition in South Africa. Compiled by the Centre for Policy Studies at the University of Witwatersrand, this study analyzes the policies of the South African government, businesses and such extra-parliamentary bodies as the ANC and the PAC which led to this momentous speech, and offers a range of alternative policy options for a post-apartheid society.
