Jane Chatham, a well-bred young woman, gives dancing lessons to the widowed Lady Haywood's daughter and her friends. When during one of the sessions Jane trips in front of everyone and ends up on her behind, it becomes a much discussed incident in all the caricatures and gossip pages. Suddenly, Lady Haywood's salon is a huge success. Simon Atwood, Lord Granger, is a former agent for His Majesty, but after his capture and imprisonment in France, he's been reclusive until his friend asks him to look into the mysterious goings-on at Lady Haywood's salon. Simon hires Jane to tell him if she sees anything. Though Jane is greatly attracted to him, rumors of Simon being injured in an area that makes a man, ahem, a man elicits enormous pity from heruntil a steamy encounter convinces her how very mistaken she is. But, will their passion for each other distract them from the very real danger at hand?
