Shaken by his experiences in Vietnam, Eamon Casey returns home to find he has been swindled out of his inheritance, and his mother dead. He seeks peace on a remote Torres straight island.
It does not last long. His island becomes the target of a plan by a foreign power to subjugate the South Pacific and gain its huge resources. Eamon rescues some people from a sinking boat and, with the help of a young English photo-journalist, foils the plot.
They become lovers and set about righting the wrongs Eamon has suffered. Their search for the crooked trustee that swindled Eamon out of his property and murdered his mother takes them to Italy and Switzerland.
