Summary:
In a world where witches, minions, and tainted souls exist, there must also be those that stand against them. These people are known as Weapon Meisters and their Weapons. They are charged with devouring tainted souls and protecting the world.
Have you ever felt the weight of familial obligations? Tsubaki has. Her brother, the Uncanny Sword Masamune, is on the verge of becoming a Kishin. As his younger sister, Tsubaki feels compelled to stop him before this happens. Naturally, Black★Star has her back.
My Review:
Okay, there's good and bad in Soul Eater Vol. 3. Though I don't mean bad in the traditional sense. Really, there are two drastically opposing plot arcs happening within the volume. The first I described above – it's intense and emotional, with different sides of Tsubaki and Black★Star coming to the surface.
...Then there's the Excalibur plot. If you've read the manga (or watched the anime), then you know exactly what I'm talking about. And why it falls into its own category of "bad." It's not that the arc itself is bad (it's actually quite funny), but as it revolves around Excalibur, I feel the need to label it accordingly. If you get it, you get it.
The good news is that the humor of the Excalibur plot helps to balance out the horror and depressing elements that come with the Uncanny Sword arc. After all, we're literally talking about one sibling hunting another (no matter how justified that hunt may be).
