The story is set in the author's fictional Yoknapatawpha County, Mississippi. The story covers the time period of May/June in the year 1929.
As the story begins a lawyer from a small town happens to be passing through on his way to the home of his sister.
"Sanctuary" is a complicated and complex tail of lawyers, families, prostitutes, lusts, and betrayal. The story has been written in a very interesting style and it keeps the readers absorbed from beginning to the end.
