An old German, Hans, befriends Patrick, a son of Jack Riordan and tells him of his life in war-torn Europe. When the local police arrest him on suspicion of being a war criminal, Jack and his family arrange legal help. They believe his story and Jack and his family set out for Europe, hoping to trace the old man's sister and clear his name. Jack and Patrick find there is a sinister force determined to prevent the truth coming out, and they have a series of dangerous adventures before achieving their objective. Meanwhile, the real criminal, an SS Concentration Camp commander, who stole Hans' papers and escaped to America, is unmasked and is on the run. His 'old comrades' in Europe have been trying to stop Jack and Patrick. Finally, he meets with rough justice. Patrick has met a German girl, Mektilde, and their romance begins to blossom. Will it come to full flower?
