This book is a reflection of the author's life. The poetry within these pages speaks of pain and suffering, of joy and ecstatic experience, of friendship and love, and of spirituality. It is, effectively, an autobiography written in poetry instead of prose. Some of the poems are very old, written when the author was a teenager, and reflect a more raw aesthetic; others are more recent and obscure. All are part of living a life that has ranged from extreme lows to successful highs. The subjects covered in the different sections of Shadow, Light, and Spirit are meant to reflect the different experiences many of us go through in life. Shadow is an expression of suffering, a cathartic letting go of past pains. Light is focused on happiness and courage that makes life worth the struggle. And Spirit is a small sample of one person's understanding of spirituality.
