I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Vampires, shapeshifters, psi, zombie-like creatures and Gods made of light? Add in a little mystery and police crime scene stuff and it sounds like the perfect book.
There were multiple point of views, which flowed nearly seamlessly. It was nice to see what other characters were thinking during some of the action. And I really liked Guy. He was funny and mysterious, and trying to figure out who he was (and never succeeding!) was fun.
I liked Sera and Talon and their interactions together. There are a few explicit sex scenes in the book. But skipping them won't make you miss anything important. There's also some insta-love. Sera was spunky and stubborn. Talon cared for his team but tended to suppress other emotions. He was also a very Alpha Male character.
The different supernaturals are explained well, and the backstory of how they came to be was a neat twist. I also liked how Sera's powers were explained. The secondary characters were interesting and didn't blend together. They didn't have as much depth as I was expecting, but weren't cardboard cut outs either.
If not for one major plot thread not being wrapped up at the end, this could easily have been a stand-alone book. All the other threads came to an end, and only one new one was introduced just before the book ended. Which is both good and bad. Good because it's not a cliffhanger ending that makes you want to cry because the next book isn't out yet. And bad because since so much was tidied up, it leaves you wondering what all could be in the next book.
