Taking the seven ages of man speech from "As You Like It" as our point of departure and a focus for our examination, this work compares Biblical and Shakespearean characters from each part of life's journey. The comparison shows the spiritual challenges and pitfalls of each age, highlighting both the deep differences between the Bible and Shakespeare, but also their ultimate complementarity, creating a fuller image of human strengths and weaknesses, potential and failure. This is shown in the final chapter, where Jesus and Cordelia are presented as the ideal for the Bible and Shakespeare, two characters who embrace and transcend all the categories of the preceding chapters.
